Peer Specialist Training

This 80-hour training, which exceeds criteria for the Colorado Peer & Family Specialist (CPFS) credential, provides participants with the basic skills and knowledge required to begin peer support work, whether working in inpatient, correctional, or community environments. A Wellness Recovery Action Plan® (WRAP) Workshop and StrengthsFinder® Workshop are included in the course fee, and are interwoven throughout the training. Our peer training team is comprised of experienced peer providers who are passionate about recovery and wellness. Training modules are designed to engage all learning styles, utilizing a combination of presentation, discussion, writing, video/audio, creative activities, and group collaboration. Participants have described this training as fun, powerful, engaging, and inspiring!

Prerequisites: Participants must identify as peers in recovery from a mental health or substance use condition, and ideally have been actively in recovery for one year or more. Application and acceptance required for participation. For more information or to apply, email peersupport@bhicares.org.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan® (WRAP) Workshop

WRAP is a personalized plan for your own wellness and/or recovery. It is appropriate for anyone, and can be utilized to support any self-directed wellness goals. WRAP, developed by The Copeland Center, is evidence-based and effective. This workshop is facilitated by people who have utilized WRAP in their own lives and found it to be very effective.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan® (WRAP) Facilitator Training

This experiential course is for people who would like to facilitate WRAP groups in the community, as well as work with people individually to develop their own WRAP. Participants will learn: WRAP values and ethics; how to effectively educate folks about the five key concepts of recovery; and group facilitation skills in the Copeland Center format. This course is highly interactive and engaging, taught by Advanced-Level WRAP Facilitators certified by the Copeland Center.

Peer Support Specialist Supervision 101

The field of peer support is growing and making a huge difference in people’s lives, but peer programs need superb leaders in order to succeed. This course equips participants with the basic skills needed to become effective and supportive Peer Supervisors. Content includes: The 5 Qualities of an Effective Peer Supervisor; helping staff avoid mission drift; adhering to boundaries and ethics, and how to advocate for your peer staff and for recovery-focused environments.
